Jackie's Soul Food
Our Mission
Jackie's Soul Food is a registered non-profit organisation based in Gugulethu, Cape Town, dedicated to fighting hunger and restoring hope. The organisation was founded in 2022 by Jacaranda Nkomo after witnessing the growing levels of hunger, poverty and hardship in her community during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. What began as a small act of compassion—preparing and sharing meals with those in need—has grown into a community feeding programme that now provides nutritious cooked meals and emotional support to approximately 120–150 vulnerable children, elderly residents, unemployed individuals and struggling families every day. Our mission goes beyond feeding people. We believe that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion and respect. Alongside every meal, we offer encouragement, emotional support and a safe, welcoming environment where people feel seen, valued and cared for. We believe that nourishing the soul is just as important as nourishing the body. Our work has been recognised through features on Expresso, Cape Town TV and Good Things Guy, helping to raise awareness of the growing need within our community. We are also a registered Section 18A public benefit organisation, enabling qualifying donors to claim tax deductions for eligible donations. To date, our work has been sustained largely through personal sacrifice, dedicated volunteers, and the generosity of a small number of individual and corporate donors. As the need in our community continues to grow, we are seeking partners who share our vision of ensuring that no one goes hungry. Together, we can feed bodies, nourish souls, and restore hope—one meal at a time.
